There is a Chinese Proverb. "If you give a man a fish you feed him for a day. If you teach a man to fish you feed him for a lifetime." It is better to teach someone how to do something than to do it for them. Giving someone a fish is good for the short term, but it is better to teach them how to do it so that in the long term they can take care of themselves. For example, if we keep making products and selling them then the women of the Bateys will only have what we can accomplish in the short term but if we teach them how to make these items and how to sell them, they can make a livelihood for themselves and their children for the long term and take pride in what they can accomplish.
